The Minority Spokesperson on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, Joe Osei-Owusu has condemned the Bureau of National Investigations for questioning Citi FM Boss, Samuel Attah-Mensah without the presence of his lawyer.
Joe Osei-Owusu said the BNI’s operatives violated Mr. Attah-Mensah’s basic constitutional rights was violated.
In an interview with Citi News, the Osei-Owusu who is also the Member of Parliament for Bekwai said it was time for the courts of the land to severely punish officers of the BNI who continue to break the nation’s laws to serve as a deterrent to other errant security operatives.

Osei-Owusu lamented that operator of BNI do not respect the law and also urging that the BNI be charged for contempt.
“The superior court of the land has consistently ruled that BNI has no power to do that,” he argued.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) has also condemned the act by the BNI stating that it has no place in democracy.
Speaking on Eyewitness News the General Secretary of the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA) David Agbenu chastised the BNI saying that it is a bad phenomenon “if someone wants a redress in terms of false publication, he or she should go to court.”
He therefore called on authorities responsible to revise the law which protects journalists to practice the profession.
“it is unfair for a journalist to be practicing his work and be arrested for it and it is a slap in the face of free speech and freedom of expression,” he lamented.
