Workers of the Ayensu Starch Factory in the Central Region have declared an indefinite strike until management of the factory increase their salaries.

The workers on November 13, served a notice to management that they will lay down their tools if their salaries were not increased.

Confirming the strike to Citi News a worker at the factory Vincent Addai indicated that the resolve of his colleagues was to have their issue addressed before calling off the action.

He further stated that some of them were paid 170 Ghana cedis, which they all described as “meager” and not suffucient under the current economic situation in the country.

The workers accused management of cheating them alleging that they were “underpaid.”

“We only need increment so if they come to an agreement with us we will gladly go back to work,” he added.

The workers said though management of the factory claimed they had conveyed their concerns to the Ministry of Trade and Industry they had still failed to increase their salaries and charged that some staff at top management was highly paid.
