Shanxii mining company operating in the Gbane Traditional Area in the Talensi District have donated 200 bags of cement worth GHc8,000.00 for the construction of  Tongo community senior high/ technical school.

Human Resource Manager of Shanxii  Joseph Anokye said, the donation is to support the construction of a two storey building for the school at a new site in Baare.

He added that, Shanxii mining company will not relent on its corporate social responsibility in improving standards of living of people in their operational zones through social interventions in Education, Health, and provision of portable Water.

[contextly_sidebar id=”gJAOUz5niPz1csHv8npdVCKhlAwmA3Zm”]The school, which has no other facility except  a six unit classroom block at Baare for its secondary and technical programmes, woefully inadequate to accommodate students in the delivery of quality education.

The head teacher of the school, Mr. Thomas Abane said the established community SHS  does not have  a library,  a science laboratory, and water for the increasing number of students.

Mr. Abane said, the courses run by the school are more than courses mainstream high schools run.

This calls for more teachers but bemoaned that, the school cannot pay its teachers due to the little income they generate.

He added that, enrollment in the school has not been the best, the few students who are offered admissions, come with the worse aggregates, mostly those who couldn’t be placed by the computerize system.

That notwithstanding they admit and make them useful products.  It was his hope that, this year students to be admitted will come with good grades.

Mr. Abane appealed to NGO’s, corporate bodies and philanthropists in the region to support the school to improve quality education for the poor and vulnerable in society..

The chief of Baare Naab Sylvester Balamgumeyetmi   said, a 2 square miles land has already been procure to construct the two-storey block  school and  members of the community have initiated systems of raising funds for the construction of the school such that, every native, 18 years old.

He added that, the time has come for communities to own education in their respective communities and not leave everything in the hands of government.

He appealed to all well-meaning Talensis home and abroad to support in diverse ways to make the construction of the school a success.

He stressed that, construction of the school has become necessary to augment governments efforts in making education accessible to all and the assembly will not relent on its efforts in contributing to a worthy cause.
