The Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has stated that the Mahama-led administration has nothing to show for the six years they have been in government.

He remarked that there is so much suffering in the nation but the government’s incompetence is not alleviating the burdens of Ghanaians.

Speaking at an NPP fund raising ceremony in the United Kingdom, Dr. Bawumia pointed out that the “stakes are high for our country Ghana in 2016 because of what is happening in the country today.”

“NDC has been in power for 6 years…and what do they have to show for it? You are all witnesses to what is happening…because there is suffering in the land. Why are you in government if you cannot solve basic problems?” he asked.

The IMF programme is expected to begin in January 2015 and President John Mahama has given the assurance that this may be Ghana’s last IMF bailout request.

A series of demonstrations have rocked the country, instigated by some pressure groups and Organize Labour to force the government to solve the economic problems.

According to Dr. Bawumia, the NDC government has had the largest resource base at its disposal in the history of Ghana but it has been unable to put them to good use for the benefit of the entire nation.

He said: “When you look at what has been done in this vast amount of resources, it is very sad because there is not much to show for it.”

Dr. Bawumia served notice that the NPP will not relent in its efforts to wrestle power from the NDC in the 2016 general elections.
