An aspiring Northern Regional Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godfred A. Wumbei was arrested on Friday for reasons yet unknown.

Godfred A. Wumbei whose results were annulled after the NDC regional conference held in Tamale spent the night behind bars at the Tamale Metro Police cells.

[contextly_sidebar id=”bJBD3HYAoA4fdTfkUGzz1QuKT4OoVXLR”]His campaign Manager, Abubakari Gariba Arafat Zakariah was simultaneously detained at the Sakasaka Divisional Police Command.

Hundreds of angry NDC supporters, family relations and sympathizers of Godfred A. Wumbei besieged the Tamale Metro Police Command and demanded his unconditional release.

Some of them threatened to destroy NDC paraphernalia in Tamale Township because of his detention.

A team of Police and Military personnel dispersed the teeming crowd to avoid calamity at the premises of the Tamale Metro Police Command.

They accused the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna of creating “Unnecessary division” in the party.

They also yelled at the newly NDC regional executives over their silence on Godfred A. Wumbei’s arrest.

Neither the regional nor the Tamale Metro Police Commander was available to explain what necessitated their arrest.

Attempts to contact the Regional Minister as well as the NDC Regional Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka proved futile.

It will be recalled that at the end of the regional congress, Godfred A. Wumbei secured 196 votes against his other contenders including the incumbent, the regional NADMO Boss, Alhaji Abdulai Silimboma.

The NDC General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia annulled his results when he was inducting the newly elected executives.

One of the defeated Organizer aspirants, Abukari Mumuni instantaneously filed a petition and challenged the duly elected winner’s results.

Reports suggested that the defeated Organizer aspirant argued that his name was wrongly spelt on the ballot paper.

The NDC national headship is yet to re-run the regional Organizer contest.

The regional Secretary and Treasurer positions are being contested in court.
