Some leading members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) joined hundreds of Ghanaians to demonstrate against the government on Wednesday.
The demonstration which was organized by pressure group, Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) was to protest against the increasing cases of corruption and the economic hardships in the nation.
Some of the NPP bigwigs who joined the demonstration included, Ursula Owusu, Mike Oquaye Jnr, Naa Torshie, Sammy Awuku, among others.

“I will be surprised to hear that this won’t change anything. It should change something. We have brought to the attention of the government what is happening and there is the need for government to sit up,” he said.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Okere complained that “things are so bad in Ghana” adding that “there is clear incompetence and I think that the government just cannot handle the management of the economy and the country. It’s clear and Ghanaians feel it. He who feels it knows it.”
He observed that a lot of Ghanaians are disappointed in the NDC government because “there is so much hassle.”
A Deputy Minority Leader, Domini Nitiwul on his part said President John Mahama has no excuse to fail in his duties.
According to him, the President has had a lot of exposure to the presidency than any other President because he had enough time as Vice President to have solutions to Ghana’s growing problems.
He said: “He personally helped the President [Late John Mills] rule the country for two years and one year before the President’s term ended, he [John Mahama] became the President so technically, President Mahama is actually in his second term so he has no excuse at all.”
Mr. Nitiwul also denied assertions that the opposition NPP and Minority in Parliament are not working to keep the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) on its toes.
He insisted that any individual who says the NPP are not putting the government on its toes “has not been following the NPP very much.”
“The Minority in particular, in all our press conferences; 19 of them, we have always stated what we disagree with the government and how we believe the situation can be salvaged,” he said.
The Bimbilla MP accused the NDC government NPP of stealing the ideas and policies of the NPP.
“They have a problem and it is that when they start to copy the NPP but they don’t do it properly,” he asserted.
“The NDC disagreed with us about corruption but today, they have agreed with us that there is massive corruption. They disagreed with us about the school feeding programme but today, they have agreed with us so we have always offered the solution. It’s just that the government is not listening,” he added.
