Government and the 12 disgruntled labour unions are set for a show down in court as efforts to settle their grievances out of court hit a snag.
The unions say the government has failed to present a plan for the resolution of the conflict, after a meeting on Monday to attempt to resolve their differences.
Director of Grievances at Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG), John Ankrah revealed to Citi News that “we have also gone to court in response to their summons which has been served on us and tried to defend our cause. We have joined the Bank of Ghana and the NPRA to the writ of summons.”

We are also seeking an order from the court compelling the NPRA to transfer funds to the very schemes they have licensed,” said the Director of Grievances at CLOGSAG.
He said at the meeting on Monday that, the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu “was insisting that the case was in court. We thought it is not in anybody’s interest and it was just a waste of time to continue talking because they [Government] is ready to go to court and make sure the case delays.”
“Although the minister has been talking about expeditious resolution of the issue, on the other hand he was insisting on the case in court which we knew it will take some time,” he added.
The 12 labour unions called off their two week long strike on November 4, following an ex parte injunction sought by government against the unions.
The unions went on strike to compel government to pay their tier two pension contributions into a privately managed account, but government has refused to grant their request, citing the high risk involved with running an employee based scheme.
John Ankrah, insisted that labour is not threatened by government’s decision to settle the matter in court.
