Management of the Northern Regional National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has so far paid GHC 7.4 million on service providers and licensed chemical sellers rendering services to its subscribers in the area.

This forms part of steps taken to defray all outstanding debts owed service providers and licensed chemical sellers across the Northern Region.

Records made available to Citi News indicated that the monies were paid from 17 October to November 1, 2014.

This followed Citi News’ report that majority of service providers and licensed chemical sellers in the area reverted to the cash and carry system over their accumulated unpaid claims.

He however allayed fears that the scheme was grinding to a halt and explained that some payments have been made.

According to Alhaji Iddris Hudu, payments are made within 90 days after the claims have been critically audited to prevent. fraud

He blamed the service providers and the licensed chemical sellers for delays in submitting their claims.

He therefore urged them to comply with the laid down administrative procedure.

The regional Accountant, Abdul Rahaman Moomen confirmed the payments have been made to some of them and reaffirmed management’s commitment to sustain the NHIS in the region.
