A Tamale High Court has placed an injunction on the upcoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) election in the Northern Region which was slated for Saturday November 8, 2014.
Two disqualified aspirants for the regional secretary and treasurer positions dragged the party to court for disqualifying them.
The disqualified regional secretary aspirant, Mohammed Aliu alias “One Man,” accused the NDC’s General Secretary , Johnson Asiedu Nketiah of deliberately disqualifying him to favour a preferred candidate in the race.
[contextly_sidebar id=”K1KUo6gS26v0KgRHAEpoPgQBDz4iW3FM”]He further condemned the NDC leadership for organizing the vetting exercise at the Northern Regional Coordinating Council amidst a heavy military presence.
In a related development a disqualified Brong Ahafo Regional chairman aspirant of the NDC, Racheal Kubadzi has also filed a motion for injunction on the region’s upcoming elections on Saturday.
According to him the basis of his disqualification by the vetting committee of the party was unconstitutional and has therefore decided to seek redress from the court.
In September, 2014, an aggrieved member of the NDC in the Ashanti Region, Linus Njolonah also sued the party alleging that some of its national executives whose tenure of office had expired were disqualifying some aspiring candidates.
The case which lingered for about a month was finally settled out of court after the party scrapped its election guidelines.
Mohammed Aliu who is a senior lecturer of Tamale Polytechnic appealed to the NDC founder, Jerry John Rawlings to call Asiedu Nketiah to order.
According to him, the NDC chief scribe is intentionally sideling persons loyal to the Rawlings’ seeking election for various positions at all levels.
Mohammed Aliu told Citi News no amount of persuasion will convince him to rescind his decision until he secures a space on the ballot paper.
His supporters besieged the court premises with placards some of which read, “No one man no vote” “General mosquito is bias” “respect the delegates,” “we want justice” and we “we won’t agree.”
The Court will reconvene on November 16 during which the party is expected to file its response.
