The National Communications Authority (NCA) has begun moves to solve the current cash fight between telcom giant MTN and Kasapa.
Tension between the two telecom operators became public knowledge last week after MTN announced, its customers will not receive calls from Kasapa effective, first of November this year, due to uncontrollable circumstances.
It is unclear when services from Kasapa to MTN, which has not been running for six days, will be restored.
But the CEO of MTN Serame Taukobong says Expresso’s inability to settle debts owed MTN pushed his company to terminate the service.
Speaking to Citi Business News at the sidelines of MTN – HUAWEI Customer Experience Management Solution workshop Serame Taukobong apologized to customers of MTN and said Expresso must honor its financial commitment to MTN.
“It borders on customer service experience. Unfortunately it is a combination of financial and regulatory issues, so we’ve tried to as much as possible minimize, the impact on MTN costumers.”
He adds that the matter is now with the NCA who are doing all they can to resolve the matter.
“We hope the issue will be resolved as soon as possible. It can only be resolved if Kasapa shows commitment to honor their financial obligations”.
Kasapa for some time now, has been facing some financial and operational challenges.
Its Chief Commercial Officer, Freddie Quainoo earlier told Citi Business News despite the challenges the telecom operator hopes to come back strong soon.
According to him their ‘main challenge is their affiliation with Sudan and Sudatel, which has made it difficult to raise capital locally and internationally and deal with vendors.
“So we need to look at our structure so we can deal with these challenges,” He added
