Hundreds of teachers in the West Mamprusi District in the Northern Region on Wednesday besieged the District’s Education Offices, demanding the payment of their salaries for last month.
The teachers have deserted the classrooms fear their November salaries too will not be paid.
Speaking to Citi News, the Chairman of the Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT) in the West Mamprusi District, Mohammed Rabiu Jabaah called on the necessary authorities to urgently address the problem.

Almost every time, the circuit supervisor will come round and take this information so we are sure that they have provided the information to the Controller Accountant General so we don’t have a full understanding as to why this thing is happening.”
“We are calling on the authorities that they should make sure that this information we are providing this time, should be respectively worked or otherwise if we are not paid this month, and the next month we are not paid again, look at how we are in hard times. It means we are not going to be paid for two months? Your guess is as good as mine”
The issue of non-payment of salaries has been lingering for sometime now.
12 Labour groups embarked on an indefinite strike on Wednesday October 22 to protest the non-payment of their salaries into a private account.
The unions however called off their strike on Tuesday after a series of negotiation with government.
Three teacher unions earlier declared their intentions to embark on a strike to protest the non-payment of their transfer grants and vehicle maintenance.
They say efforts to get government to address their grievances have proved futile.
