The Volta Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso has said the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCE’s) in the region will be given police protection following the murder of the Nkwanta South District Chief Executive(DCE) officer, Peter Kojo Penyeso.

According to the Minister, the action is necessary following circumstances that led to the DCE’s death.

The DCE was shot down by some unknown assailants at his residence on Monday evening.

[contextly_sidebar id=”8UjxOwJ2ZViIq25LnfLMiMEaKZRVHspl”]The MMDCEs in the region called on the President to provide them with adequate security since the incident has sparked fear.

Speaking with Citi News, the Regional Minister, Helen Ntoso lauded the initiative, adding that government is putting in place measures to ensure that their request is granted.

“As political appointees I think I agree with them that there is the need for them to have security. If a DCE has 14 or 20 Police men, getting one of them to move with him or her  to wherever he or she goes to is laudable.I will do that and also go back to my colleague and regional ministers so that together we push for them.”

In a related development, the Volta Regional Minister has refuted claims that the murdered Nkwanta DCE  was killed because of his involvement in a land dispute.

The Minister said there is no evidence to support such claims.
