The National Chairman of the National Democratic Party (NDP), Dr. Josiah Aryeh has told Citi News that former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings will contest on the party’s ticket in the 2016 election.

Dr. Josiah Aryeh said the country’s current economic challenges require a strong leader who can deal with the situation, a quality Nana Konadu possesses.

The NDP was formed out of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the lead up to the 2012 general elections by the wife of former President John Rawlings.

[contextly_sidebar id=”ukYrPIQLTFE8aq6X6kIe5fnUYHGznMFL”]The NDP’s flagbearer in 2012, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings was however disqualified by the Electoral Commission (EC) due to anomalies in the party’s forms.

But Dr. Aryee told Citi News, he is optimistic about the chances of Nana Konadu this time round.

“Nana Konadu will be running for the presidency of this country. I have been a keen observer to the policy of this country; I’ve seen the way in which people have either  adroitly or maladroitly managed this country.  So we don’t want to be out there and see things happen, be silent observers and witness whatever but we think that we must show our faces, we are in competitive politics as well,”he emphasised.

In a related development, Dr. Aryeh said the NDP is prepared to work with any political party  seeking to improve the welfare of the general public.

He made the comments when he led the party’s delegation to congratulate the newly elected flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akufo Addo on Monday.

Mr. Aryeh asked Ghanaians not to interpret the NDP’s visit to the largest opposition party in the country to mean that it is out of business.

“We are still in business and we want to work with anybody and we’ve tried to approach others,” he said.
