Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Hannah Tetteh, has assured that Ghanaian citizens in Burkina Faso are safe.
There is increasing tension in Burkina Faso after an army general and a colonel both announced they will lead a transition to democracy after Burkina Faso’s President Blaise Compaore resigned after massive protests.
According to the BBC, Burkina Faso army chiefs have backed Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Zida as transitional president.
This appears to end confusion over who has succeeded President Blaise Compaore, after chief General Honore Traore, had earlier declared himself head of state.
Madam Tetteh said Ghana’s Embassy in Burkina Faso has been directed to contact leaders of the Ghanaian community for any information that would help mobilize more of them and keep them safe.
Madam Hannah Tetteh announced this on her twitter handle on Saturday.
The Interior Ministry had said that Immigration and Police officers would be patrolling Ghana’s border to Burkina Faso to help Ghanaians who want to return home.
