Hundreds of Muslims in the Wa municipality in the Upper West Region on Friday observed special prayers at the Wa central mosque for Ghana against the deadly Ebola disease.
The prayers which lasted for about 2 hours was at the instance of the leadership of the muslem community in Wa, in their bid to contribute to the overall national effort to stop the outbreak of the deadly disease in Ghana.
Dr. Alhaji Sulemana Haroon Bakuri, the Imam of the mosque led the prayers.
Quoting a narration by Abu Huraira(RA) one of the closest associates of the Holy Prophet of Islam, Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) the Imam said “when calamity befalls your neighbour, you must protect yourself with Allah’s blessings, immune yourself with arms-giving, treat the sick with charity and face every disaster with prayers.”
He called on muslems throughout Ghana to pray for scientist and researchers in their bid to end the spread of the disease and for God to protect Ghana from the distress of the virus in the event of an outbreak.
Dr. Alhaji Sulemana admonished muslems to pray for the president and the entire leadership of Ghana so that God will grant them courage and high sense of coordination, reminding the muslem community that “if the is an outbreak of Ebola, we cannot embark on our annual pilgrimage to Mecca.”
He appealed to all religious bodies to also organize prayers against the killer disease.

Ghana has tested more than 100 suspected cases at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) but none has proven positive.
Duncan-Williams said fervent prayer and fasting are imperative to prevent an outbreak in Ghana.
