The Ghana Audit Service says lack of funds from government is impeding its work.
The Auditor General made this remarks at the sidelines of the 5th Audit Service annual accountability lecturers.
It was on the theme, State Audit- Achieving Better Public Accountability.
The Audit Service says it is appalled by the lack of funds to perform its duties and meet the requirement of submitting the Auditor General’s report to parliament within six months.
Citi Business News has learnt that the release of the allocation for the first quarter of this year was released last month and did not even cover all the 10 regions.
The situation has led to the delay of the Auditor General’s report to Parliament this year.
Speaking to Citi Business News the Auditor – General Richard Quartey said this year due to delays in the release of statutory funds for the operational activities of the Ghana Audit Service, work on 2013 Auditor-General’s Report to Parliament has delayed.
“We are not adequately resourced, which affects our work. Most of the delays in submitting our report is because of lack of funds. Am therefore appealing to government and the Ministry of Finance to as a matter of urgency, resource the service adequately to enable it carry out its duties effectively”
