Kwaw Ansah’s ‘Love Brewed in the African Pot’ comic launched

Legendary filmmaker Kwaw Ansah has adapted his award winning film Love Brewed in the African Pot into a comic book. Love Brewed in the Africa Pot was the first production from the legendary filmmaker and was premiered in 1980 by his production company, Film Africa Limited, founded in 1977.

The comic book was officially launched at the British Council Auditorium with a number of dignitaries present. Notable among them was Anima Amisa Amoah who played Aba, the lead actress in the movie. Also present were Addo Kufour , Mike Eghan, Dzifa Gomashie, The Minister of Education Jane Nana Opoku Agyeman.

The film immediately became a success throughout English-speaking Africa, beating all previous attendance records for a film by an African director, while at the same time earning critical acclaim and respect.

‘Love Brewed in the African Pot’ earned awards worldwide including the prestigious Omarou Ganda Prize, for ‘Most Remarkable Direction and Production in line with African realities’ at the 7th Pan-African Film Festival (FESPACO).

The film was also awarded at the UNESCO Film Award in France, and the Jury’s Special Silver Peacock Award, ‘For a Genuine and Talented Attempt to Find a National and Cultural Identity’ at the 8th International Film Festival of India.

In 1998, Kwaw Ansah was awarded the ACRAG Prize, the Living Legend Award for Contribution to the Arts of Ghana. The movie has transcended three generation but it is still relevant as was evident in the reactions of all present.

The first copy of the book was auctioned to raise funds for future productions. Some other movies from Kwaw Ansah are, Heritage Africa, The Love Of AA, Papa Lasisi Good Bicycle, Suffering To Loose and most recently Praising The Lord Plus One.
