The Police command in the Northern Region has warned that they will arrest any member of the task force, set up by the striking labour unions to compel defiant members to join the industrial action.
The Public Relations Officer of the Northern Regional Police Command ASP Ebenezer Tetteh told Citi News that it would be an offense for any member of the union to force other members to comply with the directive of the leadership of the unions.
Citi news’ Northern Regional correspondent, Abdul Karim Naatogmah reported on Friday that the leadership of the twelve labour unions have established a task force which is currently in Tamale to ensure full compliance to the declared industrial action.

But ASP Ebenezer Tetteh insists the task force must ensure they don’t violate the rights of other workers.
According to ASP Tetteh if “some of the people are in schools, they are teaching and they forcibly compel them to stop teaching and in the process they are assaulted, they can come and report.”
He said such persons could be charged with “assault or assault to battery or if they try locking the people up then they can also report them for assault by imprisonment. It is when the are trying to force the people to comply and there is violence that we can come in and deal with whoever used that act of violence.”
About 12 labour groups have currently laid down their tools to compel government to pay their tier two pension contributions.
Though Government has assured the money has not been misused, questions about the amount involved has not yet been answered.
Government has however gone to court to seek some interpretation of the Pensions Act.
