Government is insisting it has not spent monies deducted from the salaries of workers for their tier two pension scheme.

Though the Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu refused to disclose the amount of money  accrued so far, he insisted the money is intact and it is with the Bank of Ghana.

“There is a certain amount of money available but I cannot quote it to you…The money has not been chopped, the money is with the Bank of Ghana,”

Addressing the press on Friday, the Minister further assured the various labour groups to keep calm since the matter will be resolved amicably by the end of  November.

He said the issue can be tackled if the various groups engage in a dialogue with government

Various labour unions embarked on an indefinite strike on Wednesday, October 22, to protest government’s failure to pay public sector workers their tier two pension funds into a private account.

Though the Minister earlier kicked against the decision, describing it as unnecessary and unlawful, the strike was fully implemented by some labour groups.

The 12 striking labour unions subsequently set up a special task force to enforce full compliance with the ongoing nationwide labour unrest in the Northern Region.
