The 12 striking labour unions have set up a special task force to enforce full compliance with the ongoing nationwide labour unrest in the Northern Region.
This decision was arrived at a meeting in Tamale where leaders of the 12 labour unions chastised some of their members for downplaying the labour unrest.
The ongoing nationwide labour strike  has largely been ineffective at public institutions where some members of the 12 labour unions still at post have said they are yet to receive official correspondence from their mother unions.
The members of the task force will visit some state institutions including hospitals, secondary schools, the Metro Assembly and the Judiciary Service to ensure full implementation of their indefinite strike.
[contextly_sidebar id=”nzRz5Dho15KmtlBhjzRcayOxqPAtnLUF”]The Northern Regional Chairman of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association (CLOGSAG) who doubles as the Coordinator of all the union bodies, Abdul Fatawu M.K Dawuda told Citi News some of their members orientations on the strike, hence the formation of the special Task Force.
He said the ongoing labour unrest was not a sit down strike but complete withdrawal of services.According to Abdul Fatawu M.K Dawuda, government had overstretched organized labour on their Tier two pension contributions which is to be managed by a private company.
He said the labour unrest will continue unabated until government realized the need to meet their demand.
Meanwhile, the Coalition of Concerned Teachers says that though they are unhappy with the government’s response, they [labour unions] are ready to meet with the government but do not intend to call off the strike until the government agrees to their demands.
“We are not happy with the way and manner the Minister and his deputies are gong about the whole thing. In fact their outburst on radio is unfortunate,” he lamented.”We are still on strike but we are ready to meet government on Tuesday. we have resolved that we will not call off the strike until after the meeting. And even then we will only call it off if government tells us your money that we deducted has been remitted into the custodial accounts of the various occupational pension schemes.”
