The Deputy General Secretary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams, has expressed optimism that the party’s upcoming regional elections  which was suspended due to some court cases will be successful.

The court injunctions have been necessitated by a controversial clause in the party’s election guidelines which restricted some its members from contesting hence the numerous legal tussles.

This compelled the party to postpone indefinitely its regional election which was supposed to be held on October 25.

[contextly_sidebar id=”CADsJ5ARmccISzfu4YwB4ZM2IcaxCrGF”]The clause mandates that members vying for any position at the regional level should have served the party at the constituency level in a similar capacity.

Speaking on Point Blank on Tuesday, Kofi Adams said the clause that was hindering the progress of the election has been scrapped during a meeting held by the National Executive Committee.

He said; “That particular provision in the guideline is now expunged completely. So from today we do not have anything in our guideline that says that to contest a regional executive position a member or a potential aspirant should have served at the constituency level before.”

“So you can come and contest regional executive position without having any executive experience; what you need is to have qualified per the provision in the constitution,” he added.

Meanwhile, the General Secretary of the party has assured to deal with the court injunction before the continuation of the elections.

He said five working days will be set aside for aspiring regional executives to pick nomination forms.
