Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has congratulated Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on his “resounding and overwhelming victory at the just-ended flag-bearer elections” of the New Patriotic Party, which took place on Saturday, October 18.

Mr. Kufuor, who is currently in Belgium, sent his congratulatory message to Nana Akufo-Addo in a letter, further assuring the newly elected flagbearer of “my fullest support in the contest ahead.”

Some party insiders have alleged that the former president preferred Alan Kyeremanten to Nana Addo, a claim Mr. Kufuour has debunked on countless occasions.

During Saturday’s elections, Mr. Kufour decided not to vote for any of the candidates, to maintain his neutrality in the party.

But when his spokesperson, Frank Agyekum attended a press conference organised by Alan Kyeremanten, just hours before Saturday’s elections, it raised eye browse again among those who believe he is indeed for Alan.

In the said announcement, he also mentioned he would support any of the candidates who emerged winner after the elections.

Below is the letter from former president John Agyekum Kufuor to Nana Akufo-Addo :

18th October, 2014

Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

2016 NPP flagbearer

Accra, Ghana.

Dear Nana,

The news of your resounding and overwhelming victory at the just-ended flag-bearer elections of our party has just reached me and I congratulate you immensely.

The peaceful conclusion of this conference is a decisive testament to the strength of our party’s tradition of democracy and people’s power.

Perhaps, it is needless for me to reiterate, as I am sure you are already committed, that you should do your utmost best to rally the entire party behind you for the onward march for victory both in the presidential and parliamentary elections of 2016. The nation and the party expect this of you.

The competition that the other contestants offered was good and in the spirit of democracy which is the foundation of our tradition.

I assure you of my fullest support in the contest ahead.

Once again, let me wish you, your wife, Becky, and the rest of your family well.

Yours

John Agyekum Kufuor

Former President.
