Nana Akufo-Addo has received massive endorsement from delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to become the party’s flagbearer for the third consecutive time.

He eased to victory with 94.35% of the votes while his biggest opponent Alan Kyeremanteng received 4.75%.

The other candidate Addai Nimoh managed a paltry 0.91% of the votes.

Nana Addo won massively in all ten regions where over 140,000 delegates in 275 constituencies voted.

Speaking to party supporters at the Efua Sutherland Park in Accra, Nana Addo said: “I am profoundly grateful and truly humbled by your overwhelming endorsement.”

The NPP must rid the country of, through the ballot the incompetent government of John Dramani Mahama,” he stated emphatically.

“We are going to form a government for Ghana where we will reverse the decline of our nation… we have the men and women who can do it,” he added.

Also addressing the teaming party supporters, Alan Kyeremanteng conceded defeat and said: “I wish to use this opportunity to congratulate my elder brother and friend for the overwhelming endorsement by the party.

I’d like all of us to stand solidly behind Nana Akufo-Addo to ensure in 2016, the NPP comes back to power.”

He added that, “At long last the battle is over, and the struggle to take over power from the NDC has begun.”

Signs on the wall

Before the National Delegates Congress, the party went to the polls to whittle down the number of candidates seeking to lead the party from seven to five.

Nana Akufo-Addo emerged the overwhelming favourite, winning the elections with over 80% percent of the vote.

Some of the party’s bigwigs noted that Nana Addo’s victory was a clear sign that they were going to vote massively for him.

Familiar face

Nana Akufo-Addo is very popular among the grass root members of the party and seems to have built a very strong network within the party who are loyal and work for him.
