Frank Agyekum, spokesperson to former President John Agyekum Kufour, made an unexpected appearance at flagbearer hopeful Alan Kyeremanten’s press conference on Friday.

Mr. Agyekum’s appearance raised a few eye brows because his boss had earlier announced he will not support any of the flagbearer hopefuls ahead of the party’s National Delegates Congress on Saturday.

Answering questions from curious journalists about his presence at the event, he said he only attended in his capacity as the former Deputy Information Minister and “a member of the party.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”yJdFw3dWIVq85LhG1BAmOwyutBD9M63s”]Critics in the party have accused the former president of supporting Alan Kyeremanten, the man he appointed as the Minister of Trade, Industry and Presidential Special Initiative (PSI) during his rule.

To affirm his quest to be seen as “neutral” in the internal party election, the former president also proclaimed he was not going to vote in Saturdays’ elections.

Mr. Agyekum’s appearance could subtly send signals about the former president’s support for Alan Kyeremanten but he argued that it is “an important event being organized by a huge member of the party.”

He also told Citi News’ Raymond Acquah that he had been invited by the organizers and that he was there ”to listen to the message of Alan Kyeremanten.”

Another person whose presence at the press conference raised eye brows was Davis Opoku Ansah, an aide to NPP’s General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong.

Mr. Opoku Ansah would not talk to the media about his locus and role at the event even though he was seen coordinating the seating and décor of the conference room.
