Citi News has gathered that aspiring national Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Paul Afoko has finally been cleared to contest in the impending national delegates’ conference.

Mr. Afoko’s ambition was hanging in the balance following allegations that he was once arrested in the United Kingdom for dealing in narcotic drugs.

Reliable sources at the party’s headquarters on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 disclosed to Citi News that Mr. Afoko had been cleared of the narcotic drug allegations leveled against him.

Mr. Afoko’s campaign Manager, Alhaji Boniface Abubakari Sadique told Citi News his candidate had been vindicated.

However, Chairman for NPP youth group calling itself Friends of Paul Afoko, Mumuni Ibrahim affectionately called Arike insisted that the identity of Mr. Afoko’s saboteur who petitioned the National Election Committee should be disclosed.

He said the leadership of the party will do Mr. Afoko a great disservice in an attempt to shield the unidentified petitioner.

It will be recalled that an anonymous petitioner petitioned the NPP National Election Committee headed by Mr. C.K Tedem claiming that Mr. Afoko was arrested in the United Kingdom for dealing in narcotic congress.

For that reason, Mr. Afoko’s ambition was hanging in the balance pending further investigations including some expected Interpol documents.

Sympathizers of Mr. Afoko in the media accused the National Election Committee of bias and cautioned against any attempt to disqualify their preferred candidate.

In a related development, all aspirants vying for various positions at the NPP national executive level were invited on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 to a meeting at the party’s Asylum down headquarters in Accra.

Among other issues tabled for discussions included compilation of the voters register, proxy voting and accreditation for the party’s national delegates conference scheduled for Tamale on April 12, 2014.
