The head sponsor of the Ghana Premier League, First Capital Plus Bank, says they are not considering pulling out their sponsorship deal for the league despite the recent developments and indecision on the start of the league.

There are concerns raised about whether First Capital Plus Bank will still sponsor the league due to the undecided date for the start of the league due to legal issues against the league, but the headline sponsor has officially stated that the Ghana Football Association had lectured them on the current situation with respect of the league.

“…No, we are not considering withdrawing from the league. The Ghana Football Association have adequately informed us about what is going on with the legal tussle and we are patiently waiting for it to get resolved so the league can start,” the bank’s communications head, Nana Yaw Kesse told Accra-based Asempa FM.

Rumour making rounds indicate that FCPB will have to consider  increasing the sponsorship money for the league if the GFA Congress decides to vote for an 18-club league as being rumoured in the local media.

But Yaw Kesse said his outfit (First Capital Plus Bank) has not taken any decision to increase the sponsorship money since the rumoured 18 club league is not yet decided.

“We haven’t thought about something like that because it is not yet in place. I can’t talk much about that for now,” he added.

He further promised the bank’s support in developing the Ghanaian game.

“We have come to ensure that the nation gets to love football as they love it and we are doing everything we can to give football the biggest support in the country.”
