The Electoral Commission (EC) is anticipating it may have challenges conducting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer elections, if it does not receive the party’s voters register by the end of Wednesday.
The NPP will be holding a final congress to elect a presidential candidate to lead them in the 2016 general elections on Saturday, October 18 and over 145,000 delegates are expected to vote
[contextly_sidebar id=”WJAQeBGOTCybKSJlpqufV0ozDJncSMBn”]Speaking to Citi News, the EC’s Director of Public Affairs, Christian Owusu-Parry, said officials of the NPP have assured, they will meet the Wednesday deadline.
“As we speak now, we are yet to receive the voters register. We are talking to the party officials and they’ve indicated that the registers are ready and that we are going to receive them today. They are yet to be delivered to us anyway.”
According to Mr. Parry, any further delays could impede the smooth organization of Saturday’s elections.
“If the registers are delivered to us today, we won’t have too many problems. But if it is delivered too late, then we may have challenges with distributing the registers because we have to send the registers to the constituencies. Considering the fact that we have 275 constituencies, if we don’t get the registers early enough, we may have challenges distributing them.”
In all, over 140000 delegates are expected to vote at the 276 polling stations across the country.
