Some basic schools in the Tamale Metro Area lack teaching and learning materials such as chalk, text books and pupils attendance register.

This worrying development comes at the back of various surveys revelation that basic school pupils’ performance in the Tamale Metro is appalling.

Basic schools across the country reopened several weeks but some schools in the Tamale Metro Area are yet to receive their consignment of teaching and learning materials.

[contextly_sidebar id=”JVvwKE2GOb8zDmnkUeTCHqKGLhiG0aIt”]This is slowing down academic discipline in the affected schools.

Authorities of the affected schools are compelled to increase Parent Teacher Association levies to sustain academic work.

Head teachers of the affected basic schools off the record told Citi News they have been strictly warned by the Tamale Metro Education Directorate against sharing their frustrations with the media.

Meanwhile, some parents are struggling to buy the required learning materials needed to facilitate their wards learning.

Stationery dealers in Tamale Township have in stock enough teaching and learning materials but some parents cannot afford to buy for their wards.

If government does not take immediate steps to overturn the current situation, its repercussions will be immeasurable as records show that the falling standard of education in the Tamale Metro Area is worsening.
