A youth group of the ruling National Democratic Congress(NDC) in the Jirapa District of the Upper West region have boycotted  all party activities in the area.

The group has also threatened to prevent their constituency executives from taking part in both the upcoming regional and national delegates elections of the party.

The decision according to the group is in protest against the District Chief Executive(DCE) of the area, Vivian-Nelly Kunko, for her alleged involvement in corrupt practices and grossly disregarding party structures in the Jirapa Constituency.

[contextly_sidebar id=”OrgtTmhm1XKuKeh8GhzYWuFfq3FpTCH0″]A press statement issued and signed by spokesperson of the group,Mr. Esmael Sung, indicated that the group accused the DCE of taking bribes and selling contracts to undeserving contractors instead of following due procedures.

The group further accused Vivian-Nelly of being “a thin God”, disregarding the constituency executives and being “evasive to the concerns of grass root supporters of the NDC” in the area.

He said “her actions and inactions are really not helping the unity of the party in this constituency. If a DCE can vow that she wont meet elected party executives to discuss party issues with them, we wonder the future if the party. Not only that, she is always dodging the youth, branding us, dividing us and calling us names. She collects money from individuals and companies to do their bidding and we don’t think that this is the type of person the president will want to work with”

Mr. Esmael Sung was worried that the NDC is gradually losing its support base in the area because “the DCE is engaged in divisive acts”  and called on the president to urgently sack her to avoid aggrieved supporters from defecting to the opposition New Patriotic Party.

The group warned that any further delay to dismiss the Vivian-Nelly from her office will compel them to embark on a series of demonstrations and court actions to ensure that their concerns are addressed.

Vivian-Nelly Kunko in an interview with Citi News denied the allegations.

She said “for now I have nothing to say than to tell you that all the allegations are false. My office is innocent about all that they are saying”

She challenged the youth group to come out with evidence to support their claims. “ if they have any evidence they should come out with it and stop peddling falsehood”

Meanwhile the Jirapa Constituency Chairman of the NDC, Alhaji Ibrahim Poyie confirmed to Citi News that there has been a scuffle between the constituency executives and the DCE since the last constituency delegates elections of the party.

He said ”the DCE openly campaigned against us in the run up to the elections but we won. So she has been avoiding us right from the day we were elected. We tried on countless occasions to sit with her for us to patch up our differences for the sake of party unity but she keeps avoiding us”.

Alhaji Ibrahim also accused Vivian-Nelly of embezzling funds that were allocated to the constituency to carry out a biometric registration exercise of NDC members in the Jirapa constituency.

He called on President Mahama to dismiss the DCE to save the party from a possible collapse in the area.
