Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee has labeled the Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies  (MMDAs) in the Upper West Region as the most fraudulent, after concluding meetings with MMDAs in the three regions of the North.

According to the Auditor General Department’s query from 2010 to 2012, the Upper West Region alone spent 63% of its statutory funds meant for development projects without proper documentation.

[contextly_sidebar id=”OvfTc476EbccYcotCdnDzDeEmLdcVBK9″]Acting Chairman for the Public Accounts Committee, Hon. Robert Sarfo Mensah was emphatic with his pronouncement that that MDAs in the Upper West Region recorded the highest financial infractions captured on the Auditor General Department’s query list.

Hon. Sarfo Mensah chastised Heads of Departments of the various state institutions for failing to sanction officers who overlooked their central functions across the board.

He maintained that the PAC will not shield any MMDAs in their final report to Parliament.

The Auditor Generals Department queried all MMDAs across the country for spending monies meant for development projects without proper accountability.

He commended the media, staff of the Auditor Generals Department and development partners including STAR-Ghana, GIZ and the USAID for supporting the PAC to strengthen accountability and transparency in the state institutions.
