President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to Ghana’s donor partners especially the United Kingdom to stand by the country through its current challenges.
The President said this when the outgoing British High Commissioner to Ghana, Peter Jones paid a farewell call on him at the flagstaff house in Accra.
While listing the various projects and the benefits that have accrued to Ghana through its relationship with the UK, President Mahama prayed for continuous support from the UK.
This, he said, will help the country surmount its economic challenges.
He expressed the hope that the commitment shown by the UK government through the Department for International Development (DFID) and its private sector would still continue.
Narrating some benefits that have accrued to the nation by its collaboration with the UK government, he stated that “DFID continues to be a great partner to us in many respects; in education and in health but also in critical sectors of managing the economy and I am particularly grateful for their assistance they gave us in collating our pay roll”
He also expressed the hope that the UK government and DFID will particularly stand by Ghana in some challenges that it is going through with the economy.
On his part,the outgoing UK High commissioner to Ghana, Peter Jones expressed gratitude to the government for their support during his stay in Ghana which lasted some three years.
He pledged continued support for Ghana by the British government, stating that UK believes in Ghana.
“We are willing to address the challenges that Ghana faces. We believe in Ghana and we want Ghana to succeed. I can pledge that we are here to help and to make that special relationship an even stronger relationship in the future,”he said.
