The curfew imposed on the Bimbilla township has been reviewed from 5pm to 6 pm following an expected ruling by the National House Chiefs about who is the rightful claimant to the Bimbilla stool.

The Bimbila Chief Naa Dasana Andani was murdered by unknown assailants in June in his palace.

There was further unrest in the area which compelled the Ministry of Interior to impose a twelve hour curfew on the town.

The ruling on the matter has been set for Wednesday in Kumasi and the security apparatus in Bimbilla are taking no chances.

District Chief Executive (DCE) of Bimbila Alhaji Mohammed Ibn Abass told Citi News the reviewed curfew is to ensure the safety of residents.

“In reviewing the security situation we said that we needed to put in place some new measures to ensure public safety and we agreed that in view of the impending ruling by the National House of Chiefs on the Bimbilla chieftaincy affair tomorrow, there will be the need to put in place some new security measures and reinforce already existing security measures,” he indicated.

He said according to the District Security Committee (DISEC) “it will be proper to shift the curfew hours to 5 oclock,” adding that “these are the recommendations that we have made and that we are communicating to the REGSEC and the interior ministry for confirmation.”

Meanwhile, some Bimbilla residents who spoke to Citi News earlier called for a reduction in the curfew hours to enable them have enough time to transact their businesses.
