After several weeks of music lovers guessing which musician would be celebrated at the 2014  MTN Legends and Legacy (LAL) Ball, it has  finally  been revealed by event organisers, Imajin Advertising, that Kojo Antwi is the man.

At the Oak Plaza Hotel on the Spintex Road in  Accra  where the announcement was made last Thursday, the musician referred to sometimes as The Maestro or Music Man, seemed lost for words.

He pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and nervously admitted it was one of the very few times that he had gone to an event with a prepared speech.

Kojo Antwi would thus be the fourth artiste to be honoured at the LAL Ball.

The three already celebrated for their illustrious contributions to Ghanaian popular music are Daddy Lumba  (2011), Amakye Dede (2012) and AB Crentsil (2013).

“To Imajin Advertising, I say let’s do it on November 1 at the Accra International Conference Centre,” Kojo Antwi said at the end of a short speech in which he thanked God  for the grace of creativity and ability.

He also acknowledged his fans for accepting him and  supporting his career.

That career has seen him make a strong impact on fans  over the years with memorable tracks like Akonoba, Groovy, Hini Me, Me Nko Medo, Menya Ntaban, Medofo Pa, Odo Mayea, Rocklyn, Meto Nko, Me Ndaadaa Me, Bo Me Nkomo De, Dadie Anoma and  Makoma Doctor.

At the ceremony to unveil Kojo Antwi, AB Crentsil was there and he wished the Music Man well. There were also several other personalities, some representing sponsors, who all appreciated the essence of the LAL Ball and its role in the development of  the creative arts in this country.

Richard Acheampong, General Manager for Marketing Services at MTN Ghana, said his outfit  was proud to be associated with the LAL Ball which recognises the exploits of renowned musicians.

“We are proud not only to be headline sponsor but  we have also invested in various platforms on our network to promote the works of these legends even as we celebrate them.

“I don’t believe it is just enough to look at these legends from afar and wave at them. We must go out of our way to patronise their works,” the MTN official said.

No details were given about the support acts for November 1 LAL Ball, except the mention of stylish lawyer, Nana Asante Bediatuo, whom the organisers said would surely be on stage to perform.

Sponsors of the MTN LAL Ball are Global Access, Oak Plaza Hotel, Danny’s Décor, GTP NU Style, Special Ice Mineral Water.
