Police in Central Region have started investigations into how some forty students gained admission into the Ankaful Nursing Training College without going through due process.

The students have since been sacked by authorities of the school after the discovery.

According to the Principal of the school, the illegal students were fished out after an admissions audit aimed at creating a data base for first year students was carried out.

[contextly_sidebar id=”VXpCAJelg0sA6FIZ7WLzRODmLm8pIUWs”]The illegal students had paid their fees though the school did not give them any official admission letter.

In an interview with Citi News, Principal of the Training College, Grace Inkoom described the incident as unusual.

She said the audit revealed that these illegal students had actually paid their fees even though authorities of the school did not serve them with admission letters.

She said some of the students found culpable refused to leave the school eventhough they had been served an official letter.

“We had to go and warn these students but a lot of them refused to go so we had to call in the Police and inform the Regional Director,” she said

The issue has also been forwarded to the Attorney General’s Department for further investigations.

The former Minister of Health, Sherry Ayittey in March, criticized the mode of selection of students into the Medical and Dental clinics and called for changes.

The former Minister was emphatic that Ghana’s example of quality education cannot be said to be fair when applicants, representing the majority of the population are excluded.
