A Legal Practitioner, Egbert Faibille has said the decision by the Dzamefe Commission to make the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi’s take his oath again was “overstretched.”

The GFA President’s decision to swear by the Quran during his first  appearance on Tuesday, raised eyebrows as people were under the impression that he was a Christian.

Checks by the Citi Sports desk revealed that he attended the Trinity Baptisit Church even though he was raised as a Muslim.

Mr. Faible stated that Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi should not have been quizzed on his religious status since the constitution clearly indicates that “people should have the liberty to profess whatever religion and manifest it”

[contextly_sidebar id=”YMukizyAjLxp0otIM94zP8qlw5yaCMZV”]The saga continued at the Commission’s 29th sitting as the GFA President was asked by the Commission to clarify his religious status.

The request by the Commission, however did not go down well with him [Kwesi Nyantakyi] as he expressed his displeasure at the Commission’s decision to make him swear for the second time.

“In the Court of law, will you subject me to this kind of treatment?I don’t feel fairly treated with all due respect. I read this on citifmonline.com yesterday that you are going to this. If you like I will open it. I am not saying you told somebody but what you are doing is not any different from what is in the media, “ he lamented.

But in a rebuttal, a member of the Commission Moses Foh Amoaning who also offense by the accusations from Mr. Nyantakyi said, “I am very, very offended by the position that president of the FA has taken on the basis of an online information and presuming that the question that I asked was in fulfillment of a strategy…I feel personally very offended by the position that he has taken.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Faibille said : “what took place at the Commission between yesterday and today has been overstretched”

“If Nyantakyi appears before the Commission and says that he is Muslim, all that he has to do is to manifest his beliefs in Islam …which he did,” Mr. Faible stated.
