In the past week, former Qatar boss Milovan Rajevac has been speaking to Ghana and Benin in hopes of getting a job.
The man who led Ghana to the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals has been named in a final three-man shortlist for the post of the national football team coach of Benin.
The Benin Football Federation (FBF) named the Serbian alongside Frenchman and former Togo coach Hubert Velud, and former Nice boss Olle-Nicolle.
Over 20 applications were vetted before the trio was selected, according to officials of the FBF in Cotonou on Monday. Rajevac, who led Ghana to the final of Afcon 2010 as well as the quarter-finals of the 2010 World Cup, was heavily linked last week with a role on Ghana’s bench at this year’s World Cup, possibly as a technical advisor.
The 60-year-old is said to be weighing a gig with Ghana following talks his former assistant Kwesi Appiah – who is now the boss.
Big respect
Indeed, while not denying that he still has respect admiration for “Milo”, Appiah insists there is no guarantee that the Serbian will join his backroom staff.
Ghana FA boss Kwesi Nyantakyi also said last week that bringing Milo into the fray had not been discussed – at the time – and that there is no definite decision on any role for Rajevac.
It is an open secret that Ghana’s top officials enjoy a great friendship with Rajevac, to the extent that he has been seen around the Black Stars several times in the last year and a half in games around the world.
But what can be reported as a fact is that Rajevac has interest in being part of the Ghana setup in some form during the World Cup, after meeting the West Africans. He was around the team, again, last week when the Black Stars played in a friendly with Montenegro.
On his part, Kwesi Appiah has said that he will inform his countrymen of who his choice of technical advisor – if at all – by then end of April.
Meanwhile, the Benin football governing body chairman Augustin Ahouanvoebla told reporters that the successful candidate will be named by the end of this week.
