The Executive Director of IMANI Ghana, Franklin Cudjoe has commended the President for taking a bold step by dismissing the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Enterprise Support (YES) Fund, Adu Asare.
He stated that Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) are elated with the decision.
Adu Asare who was the head of the Protocol and Supporters Welfare union for the Brazil 2014 World Cup, has been criticized for his involvement in the poor organization of Ghana’s participation which led to the abysmal performance of the Black Stars’ in the tournament.
His appearance at the Dzamefe Commission a few weeks ago where he admitted that some funds collected for Ghana’s World Cup campaign was misappropriated led to calls for his dismissal from the YES fund.
[contextly_sidebar id=”MBc7CzbMdXU6LTqb0dqKf5duYaISQ4up”]Although he was subsequently sacked by President Mahama on Monday, it is unclear if his dismissal is linked to the revelations he made at the Dzamefe Commission.
Franklin Cudjoe, who is one of the people calling for Adu Asare’s removal, on Eyewitness News commended President John Mahama for taking such a decision.
He said: “Some of the things he [Adu Asare] said made it difficult for his continued stay at YES because he himself accepted that he misapplied funds that he collected from corporate entities for Brazil.”
Cudjoe stated that persons calling for Adu Asare’s dismissal “can’t claim the glory, but we are just elated that for once President Mahama seems to be cracking the whip.”
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Effutu, Afenyo Markin, who had also strongly opposed some processes in the management of the YES fund called for a legal framework to entrench the fund.
“This policy initiative has not come to Parliament for parliamentary endorsement. We need to get the necessary legal framework in place to get it moving. You cannot just have a policy, release some funds for it and that ends the day. This government has had a problem with policy implementation,” he said.
