Aflao chief remanded into police custody

A High Court in Ho in the Volta Region, has remanded into Police custody, the claimant of the Aflao stool Togbui Afla Awuno Detu IX.

Torgbui Afla Detu and five others were arrested by the Police on Thursday after defying Police orders not to enter the town after security intelligence revealed his actions could spark violence.

[contextly_sidebar id=”EFlLacnf627uJSE21GBpdobPAPvSiN1D”]The Police put the chief before court on Friday and he was charged on two counts of offensive conduct, organizing public public event without recourse to the public order act.

Presiding judging Patrick Baaye said his decision to remand the chief into Police custody is for the safety of the accused and the people of Aflao.

Togbui Afla Awuno Detu IX is expected to reappear in court on October 30.

On Thursday the youth of the area demonstrated against the Police, following the arrival of the supposed new paramount chief of Aflao Traditional Area, Togbui Afla.

The youth said they were angry because the Police betrayed them by allowing the supposed paramount chief to enter the town, after the police assured to prevent his out-dooring.
