Three teenagers are being held by the police on suspicion of breaking into a boutique and looting it at Teshie in Accra.
The police arrested Nana Yaw Aboagye Dakosta, alias Santo, 19, Peter Kwamor, 18, and Jonathan Yaw Kudonu, 18, all scrap dealers, at midnight while they were in a taxi with sacks full of dresses.
They are said to have told the police that the dresses were second-hand clothes which they were taking to Kantamanto in Accra for sale.
[contextly_sidebar id=”rOI0Gkc6RGPOwOlOSmAb2OTO4Vj4X5ul”]However, the police said a careful inspection of the clothes indicated that they were new and not second-hand as claimed by the three teenagers.
Monitoring boutique owner
The Teshie Police Commander, Superintendent of Police Simons Agbodeka, said the three suspects were apprehended on September 18, 2014 at about midnight.
He said investigations established that the three conspired to go on a robbery spree at Teshie.
“To put their plan to action, the three, who live at Agbogbloshie, arrived in Teshie at about 7 p.m. and hid in a bush until about 11 p.m. where they monitored the owner of the boutique.”
When the owner closed and left, Mr Agbodeka said, the three teenagers emerged from the bush and broke into the boutique.
“They told the police that Kudonu used a cutter to cut a portion of the container used for the boutique, while Dakosta stood by the road to watch if anyone was passing by,” he said.
The three later entered the shop and looted its content into a big sack and a bag, popularly referred to as ‘Ghana must go’, and bolted.
Shop owner identifies goods
He said they later stopped a taxi and asked the driver to take them to Kantamanto, but the Teshie Police Patrol team intercepted the car at Alowey, near Teshie Tsuibleo.
“A search found the sack and bag full of the cloths and the police became suspicious. When it was found that the dresses were new and not second-hand as they had claimed they were arrested,” he said.
The next morning, the owner of the boutique, who found her shop broken into, reported the incident to the police at the GREDA Estate Police Station.
“She identified the items as the stolen goods from her shop and immediately the three suspects broke down and started confessing to the police.”
