The Minority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu, has backed calls for the immediate resignation of the Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

According to him, Lauretta Vivian Lamptey ought to have known better given the remit of the commission that she presides over saying, “she should have exercised better judgement than she has done.”

“That conduct amounts to gross indiscretion on her part. I thought that she should have exercised better judgement than she has done. The amount involved…is a clear case of misapplication of public resources and it ought not to have happened how it happened,” he said.

[contextly_sidebar id=”DIGXy553O6TuR56ySpFMXHTnC7teLlRn”]Ms Lamptey has been in the news the past few weeks for allegedly using about $180,000 on rent at the AU Village in Accra and another GHC182,000 for the renovation of her official bungalow.

After the report of her alleged misuse of public funds, some groups as well as individuals have called for her removal as CHRAJ boss due to her display of “incompetence.”

Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam/ Adoagyiri Constituency, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has also initiated moves to have her impeached.

However, speaking exclusively to Citi News, Mensah Bonsu who is also the MP for Suame said there is no justification for the under-fire CHRAJ boss to remain at post.

The Minority Leader argued that “the position that she herself is occupying is so unique. CHRAJ themselves have developed a code of conduct document for public office holders…so if you flout it to such an extent, it becomes indefensible.”

Meanwhile, the Auditor General’s Department is currently auditing the finances of the Commission.

Sonny Eric Adinyira, Head of Treasury at CHRAJ, was also picked up by Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on Thursday for questioning.
