A former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, has called on world leaders to be concerned about human activity, which is the greatest underlying factor for climate change.

He said human activity was controllable and as such should not be allowed to turn the world upside down.

Mr Kufuor, who is the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Change, was speaking to journalists at the UN headquarters in New York, United States last Tuesday, after participating in the opening of the Climate Change summit at the 69th UN General Assembly.

He said the problem of climate change was a constant threat to the survival of human beings and nature so nothing should be left to chance to defeat it.

Latest report

The latest report of the Inter-governmental panel on climate change (IPCC) concluded that the human influence on climate change was clear, which is depicted in the increasing greenhouse gas concentration in the atmosphere, among others.

One of the major findings of the IPCC 2014 mitigation report is that global emissions of greenhouse gases have risen to unprecedented levels despite a growing number of policies to reduce climate change.
