Thirty nine out of the 40 ECOWAS nationals convicted by a Tamale Circuit Court have being repatriated.
One of them, a Burkinabe is still in prison custody at the Tamale Central Prisons in default of payment of the fines.
The repatriated convicts from Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea were arrested in Bole in the Northern Region for illegal mining.
Thirty nine of them fully paid the fines for entering Ghana through unapproved routes, without proper documents and for engaging in illegal mining in the Bole Area, hence their repatriation on Wednesday September 24, 2014.

Assistant Director of Immigration in charge of the Northern Regional command, Eric Afari superintended the repatriation exercise.
He reaffirmed his command’s vigilance at some identified 13 unapproved entry points into Ghana through the Northern Region.
Mr. Afari repeated calls for enough logistics to intensify their patrols in the region.
He cautioned the locals against conniving with foreign nationals to engage in dubious activities.
A Tamale Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Senyo Amedehe on Tuesday September 23, 2014 fined each of them 40, 50 and 55 penalty units.
Each of them would have served 12, 13 and 14 months imprisonment in default.
