The Alliance For Accountable Governance (AFAG) has served notice of a demonstration against Lauretta Lamptey, the Commissioner for the Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

Ms Lauretta Lamptey has come under severe criticism for causing the state to pay about $180,000 in three years on her hotel bills and renovation works on her official bungalow.

According to AFAG, Ms Lamptey has brought the commission’s name into disrepute hence their call for her resignation.

But speaking to Citi News, Chairman of AFAG, Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie demanded the CHRAJ boss resigns before the impeachment process gets completed, adding “the release by government shows that, in case you don’t have accommodation, 20 percent of your salary must be used to finance your accommodation. With what has gone on, over 1,000 percent of her salary was used.”

He insisted that Ms Lamptey had abused her powers saying, “she is suppose to referee over corruption cases, and we think she must definitely resign.”

“Next week we will have a conference that is suppose to take on the economy, which is definitely going to slate the platform for demonstration but corruption is the integral part so… if she does not resign, then we shall add her also to the list of corrupted officials which we will bring out that will necessitate the cause for a demonstration,” he declared.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam/ Adoagyiri Constituency, Frank Annoh-Dompreh has begun an official process to have Ms Lamptey impeached.

The MP on Tuesday sent a  petition to the President, describing the CHRAJ boss’ conduct as “unfortunate,” especially at a time Ghana is in talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a possible bail out after crippling economic and cash-flow challenges.
