The First Lady, Lordina Mahama, has called on her colleague first ladies to mobilize the needed support to reduce maternal and child mortality in Africa.
Lordina Mahama made the call when she participated in a High Level Dialogue of African First Ladies on Maternal and New-Born health beyond 2014, on the sidelines of the 69th Session of the UN General Assembly at the UN Headquarters in New York.
The session is organized by the Organization of African First Ladies Association (OFLA) and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
She said such move will help them achieve the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) five on reducing maternal mortality and achieving universal access to reproductive health.

Lordina Mahama said the session would allow them to reflect and renew their commitment to maternal health and adolescent girls.”
The first Lady also assured of their resolve to protect women from the many pregnancy related challenges that they face and from diseases such as cervical and breast cancers, HIV and malaria adding that “we commit to forge ahead together and to work to keep them alive and healthy.”
She said members of OFLA will leave no stone unturned in enhancing the lives of women, babies and adolescent girls.
“We will continue in our effort to protect these vulnerable population from the many pregnancy related challenges that they face and from diseases such as cervical and breast cancers, HIV and malaria. We commit to forge ahead together and to work to keep them alive and healthy,” she affirmed.
