Graphic journalist, Daniel Kenu has dropped all assault charges against brother of Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan, Baffour, on health grounds.

[contextly_sidebar id=”jVgjJ9gNP7Kr4BBNI62N8Fi9SIW0Enlh”]The Kumasi-based journalist told the Kumasi Circuit Court in its hearing on Friday he wants to discontinue the case, in a move that surprised all gathered at the court premises.

Kenu initiated court action against the former Ghana striker over an alleged physical assault meted him a day before the Black Stars played its opening 2015 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Uganda.

Two counts of assault charges were also brought against Asamoah Gyan’s business manager Samuel Anim Addo who according to Kenu was an accomplice in the alleged assault.

But the case was struck out after the renowned Graphic journalist told the court he was no longer interested in prosecuting the case any further.

Kenu hinged his reason to drop all charges on health grounds and also adds the court action has made his family – in particular his mother – very uncomfortable.

A press statement issued by Kenu noted that “it is with heavy heart that I write to inform this honourable court that I, Daniel Kenu, the regional editor of Daily Graphic, Ashanti region, and the complainant in the Baffour Gyan led assault on me, to discontinue with the case on health grounds and other related family matters.”

“My recent consistent and persistent rise in my blood pressure following the trauma that I am currently going through as a result of the September ,5, 2014, attack as well as the sudden death of my uncle Efo Kwame in the Eastern region, who until his death on the eve of the last hearing in court, September 12, had insisted that I let go off the case because the name of the family had been in the media too much lately, warranted this decision”

The accused persons – Baffour Gyan and Samuel Anim Addo – were accordingly acquitted and discharged.
