Co-ordinator of Human Security at the Presidency, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has said he is depressed over revelations at the 2014 World Cup Commission of Inquiry.

According to him, though Ghanaians complain that there is no money in the country, public officials unnecessarily spend huge sums of money.

[contextly_sidebar id=”LH8IL00hJOIf3OXI70p31TdgnsJElEku”]The ongoing inquiry into Ghana’s preparations and participation at the 2014 World Cup has revealed that the country lost millions of dollars during the tournament in Brazil.

Horace Ankrah, who chaired the Grounds, Events and Logistics Sub-committee, told the Commission that the amounts agreed with caterers to cook food for Black Stars supporters was GHC 34, but the amounts captured in official documents was 35  dollars.

This, coupled with other revelations have incurred the wrath of many Ghanaians who are advocating for persons found culpable of causing financial loss to the state to be prosecuted.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, Nunoo-Mensah complained that various developmental projects have been abandoned due to lack of resources, yet millions of Ghana cedis was spent on the World Cup Tournament.

He said: “There are many GETFund projects that have been abandoned because there is no money to pay the contractors. So when I hear these things it really saddens me.”

“People who don’t have work in Ghana, they don’t even have houses to sleep in, you spend money on them and you fly them all the way to Brazil, pay for them to watch football and feed them whilst the same people don’t have jobs in Accra. They don’t even have public toilets and now cholera is taking over our society,” he noted.
