Some disgruntled teachers in the Agortime –Ziope District Assembly have embarked on a demonstration exercise to back their demand for the immediate removal of the District Director of Education, Mr Gershon Agyeman.

Addressing the media after the demonstration, the teachers said their decision was motivated by the lack of administrative ingenuity exhibited by the District Director  in the discharge of his duty.

In a 15 point petition read on behalf of the teachers, Mr Samuel Sevor, accused the Director of financial mismanagement, truancy and being autocratic, which to them is an affront to the development of education in the district.

[contextly_sidebar id=”cjSWLkFYbaz6iyaSCpgZMvBltAprOba3″]He said “the district director leaves the office within one hour or two, and stands against anything done in his absence. He is very autocratic and intimidates his officers. He spends most of the money allocated to the office on fuel for his personal errand.”

According to Mr Sevor, the teachers had explored various avenues to discuss issues with the director but had been futile.

Mr Emmanuel Keteku, the Volta Regional Director of Education who rushed to the area upon hearing of the demonstration exercise urged the teachers to exercise restraint since their grievances and concerns would be forwarded to the Director General of Education.
