The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration will be joining other UN member states in a climate change summit.
The Summit will precede the 69th General Debate of the United Nations Assembly to be held in New York.
The climate change summit which will be held on September 23 will see member states discuss efforts to reduce the effects of climate change.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, the sector Minister, Hannah Tetteh said her outfit is looking forward to a more conclusive agreement on this phenomenon.
According to her, Ghana has not been spared from the adverse effects of climate change but she indicated that her Ministry has put together a response to the challenge.
She said climate change has been integrated into the nation’s national development framework while a national climate change policy has been formulated to serve as guidance.
Also, legislations such as the Renewable Energy Act and Energy Efficiency laws and regulations have enacted to boost the efforts being made by the government.
Furthermore, the Ghana Green Fund has been established together with a national plantation programme among others, to address Ghana’s environmental challenges.
Ms Tetteh stated that officials from the Ministry “will participate in this summit and as we engage with other member states, we hope to prepare for the conclusion of a new and more inclusive agreement on climate change in 2015.”
She was of the view that the agreement must be “informed by science, guided by equity and founded on the basis of the United Nations’ climate change convention…to create a safer, more sustainable world.”
