Katy Perry is leading the nominations for this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs).

The singer is up for seven including Best Female, Best Pop Act, Best Video and Best Live act.

She will be going head to head in most categories with Ariana Grande, who has six nominations for the awards being held in Glasgow in November.

5 Seconds of Summer and Pharrell Williams have five each, one more than One Direction.

Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande receives her first ever MTV EMA nominations, she has four including Best pop.

Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Sam Smith and Kiesza have all received four nominations each.

The biggest battleground may well be between 5SOS and 1D as they go head-to-head in the Biggest Fans category.

Also announced today, Cheryl Cole won the wildcard vote to be in the running for Best UK & Ireland Act, the winner of which will enter the Best Worldwide category.

5 Seconds of Summer
5 Seconds of Summer are nominated for five MTV EMA’s, one more than One Direction.
