Korle Bu and KATH boards reconstituted

The Health Minister, Dr. Kwaku Agyemang-Mensah has tasked new boards of the Korle Bu and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospitals to cut back on excessive spending and other financial leakages.

He has also charged them to be innovative in raising funds to aid the work of their respective hospitals.

“Devise innovative ways in mobilizing financial resources to sustain and improve the performance of the sector. As board members, take steps to plug all the leakages in the system to avoid waste and make savings,” Dr. Agyemang-Mensah said.

In an attempt to save the image of the hospitals, the government has reconstituted their boards.

The governing board of Korle Bu is chaired by a senior lecturer at GIMPA business school, Dr. Anthony Mawuli Sallar.

The rest of the members are Henry Atta Paidoo, Perpetual Annang, Kempes Ofosu Ware, Dr. Gilbert Buckle, Nurudeen Mohammed, Victoria Aku Quaye, Felix De-Corsah Eduful, Jennifer Eileen Welbeck, Grace Evangeline Anyele Parkings, Dr. Samuel Asiamah and Elizabeth Bruce.

Meanwhile, that of Komfo Anokye is headed by Dr. Kenneth Dadzie Sagoe, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

The other members are , Mrs. Joanna Appiah –Dwomoh, Dr. Peter Boakye-Yiadom, Nana Amampene Boateng Twum II, Isaiah Offeh Gyimah, Dr. Francis Adu Ababio, Dr. Baffour Awuah, Anthony Kofi Mensah, Ms. Patience Yeboah-Ampong, Prof. Yaw Adu Sarkodie and Elvis Kusi.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the two boards, Dr. Agyemang-Mensah asked the members to put in their best efforts to improve on healthcare delivery to Ghanaians.

The Health Minister counseled them to “work diligently and selflessly to turn round the fortunes of your various organizations which will in turn translate in the improvement of health service delivery in Ghana”.

“It is also imperative that as board members, you take steps to plug all the leakages in the system to avoid waste and make savings. Your vigilance and effective monitoring of agencies under your care will help achieve your objective,” he stressed.

Meanwhile, the new Korle-Bu board chairman, Dr. Anthony Mawuli Sallar in his acceptance speech on behalf of the other members said issues that have led to the internal unrest at the hospital will be solved.

He also promised to convey a meeting between the board and Chief Executive Officer soon to “make the hospital a better one”.

Dr. Kenneth Dadzie Sagoe on his part also promised that together with his other board members, they will bring Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to its old glory.

He also stated that they will still rely on the counsel and experience of the past board members as well as other stakeholders for the growth of the hospital.
